Computing Resources
A new computer system for the BHI is now available on Cannon, the FAS computer cluster at Harvard University. This new partition is named appropriately “blackhole” and has 40 water cooled nodes with 48 Intel Cascade Lake cores, 192 GB of RAM, and HDR infiniband adding up to 1920 cores of compute power. This computer is part of the Cannon cluster and can be accessed by simply changing the partition you are using to blackhole.
If you do not have an account on Cannon please go to this webpage to request access. Accounts should be sponsored by the PI you are working for. Postdocs and BHI Fellows unaffiliated with a specific PI should select the bhi_lab as their sponsor. If you already have an account on Cannon and are part of a BHI PI you will be automatically associated with the lab. This association might take some time to propagate through the FAS RC systems.
BHI computational resources are managed by Research Computing (RC). If you have any questions about the new resource contact RC Help or swing by FAS RC Office Hours on Wednesdays between noon – 3pm at 38 Oxford Street Room 100.
We are particularly grateful to Paul Edmon who helped us establish this new system, and look forward to many important breakthroughs and insights on black holes that will come out from using it.
