Description

Counting Bags of Gold

Canonical gravity has a vast entropy of solutions that look like black holes with large regions behind the horizon. Recent euclidean gravity arguments suggest that this is reduced to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. I will sharpen the Lorentzian overcounting puzzle and clarify the relation to configurations with modes excited very close to the horizon, with an eye to understanding the microscopic mechanism in UV complete theories.
