Mihalis Dafermos
Description
Title: Extremal and near-extremal black holes
Abstract: I will discuss the stability problem for extremal (and near-extremal) black holes and describe a new conjectural picture of the phase space of gravitational collapse.
Bio: Mihalis Dafermos received his BA in 1997 from Harvard and his Ph.D. in 2001 from Princeton. His research centres largely on the mathematical study of black holes and singularities in classical general relativity. He is Professor of Mathematics at Princeton University and serves as Director of the Princeton Gravity Initiative. He also holds the Lowndean Chair of Astronomy and Geometry in the Unversity of Cambridge.
