Description

Hydrodynamics and Black Holes in Conformal Field Theories

Under appropriate situations, all quantum field theories are governed by the equations of hydrodynamics. In this talk I will explain how one can use this simple fact to derive universal constraints on the spectrum of states and local operators in  conformal field theories, both at large dimension and at large spin. In the special case of N=4 Yang Mills theory, the thermodynamics of spinning black holes in AdS_5 can be used to obtain a nontrivial test of our general results.
