The CSIC (Spanish National Research Council) awards the prestigious JAE-Chairs grant to Sheperd Doeleman and Jose Gómez

Jose Gómez, researcher at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía (IAA), Spain and Shep Doeleman recently received a grant from the main Spanish funding agency to work on the first next-generation Event Horizon Telescope (ngEHT) dish to be constructed on Tenerife in the Canary Islands. The JAE Chair grants foster close collaboration between an internationally renowned researcher (Chairholder) and one of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) national research institutes or centers. The aim is to attract world-class researchers who will drive scientific and technological excellence and impact within the institution. As the Chairholder, Doeleman will work with Gómez and his EHT/ngEHT group at the IAA on algorithms, instrumentation and commissioning the Tenerife Event-horizon Antenna (TEA) to pursue making full-color, high definition movies of supermassive black holes.
