Biography

Lynn Gamwell does interdisciplinary research on the connections among art history, the history of mathematics, and the history of science. She teaches these subjects at the School of Visuals Arts in New York. Her books include: Black Hole Aesthetics: Scientific and Artistic Images of Invisible Objects (forthcoming); Exploring the Invisible: Art, Science, and the Spiritual, revised edition (2020); Mathematics and Art: A Cultural History (2016; Chinese edition 2024); Dreams 1900-2000: Science, Art, and the Unconscious Mind (author and editor, 2000; German edition 2000); and Madness in America: Cultural and Medical Perceptions of Mental Illness (with Nancy Tomes, 1994).
