I am a graduate student in theoretical physics at Harvard, working with Professor Andrew Strominger on Kerr black holes. We use an emergent near-horizon conformal symmetry to solve geodesics that can only be found numerically in the past. Subsequently, we are able to do a variety of astrophysical computations analytically. We compute the broadening of electromagnetic line emissions from accretion disks; we solve for the polarization of light coming from the near-horizon region as measured by a distant observer.
